Being aware is being prepared

July 16th, 2010

As with everything nowadays the Internet has revolutionized the hotel industry. Thanks to its convenience the Internet has brought the world to our fingertips. The hotel industry too reaps the benefit of this as they find their hotels being more accessible to the public.

Before half the hotels in the world were not known to most of us as we depended on tour operators and word of mouth to make a decision. Now we can check out a hotel and decide it suitability for us on our own. Also we can now negotiate directly with the hotels and get the best deals to suit our budget.

Further there are no time consuming trips to meet tour operators as everything cam be done from the comfort of a computer anytime of the day with most hotels now offering same day online bookings. This is perfect when a sudden urge to travel hits. Hotels now find they have greater occupancy rates as people have easier access to book their hotels.

Doing research is now a standard when planning a holiday as people like to be sure they are getting value for their money. This has resulted in pricing becoming quite competitive and thereby resulting in more people being able to afford to go on vacation which in turn means hotels find themselves enjoying more business. It is a beneficial cycle for all parties involved!

Another benefit of online booking is customers being more aware of deals that are on offer and being able to make use of these. Payments being possible online smoothens the whole process further as it is relatively hassle free. Sites like roomsnet.com offer over 52,000 hotels so it is easy to browse for the perfect place stay from such a vast number of choices.

However, when booking hotels online it is always advisable to be thoroughly aware of a hotel’s policies, especially regarding refunds. Always double check on hotel policies and check with the provider, such roomsnet.com, regarding refunds and ensure that the policies of both tally. By being aware and checking on such matters, customers can avoid unnecessary expenditure if a situation crops up making travel impossible. Most hotels offer very flexible cancellation policies and are willing to refund if informed, but this may not be the case for no-shows. Being aware is being prepared which is always the smarter option.

Roomsnet.com complaints on the wane

July 14th, 2010

Emerging from a tough period globally roomsnet.com now offers its members even better deals and holiday opportunities. With its ever growing hotel inventory roomsnet is well on the way to making complaints a thing of the past.

The years 2008 and 2009 were economically tough ones worldwide, with hardly any countries emerging from unscathed.  As global superpowers succumbed to the crashing economies many industries were hard hit. One such was the travel industry.

Obviously with prevalent redundancies, pay cuts and company closures people cut down on all extra expenses and one of the first to go were holiday budgets. This was instantly felt by the industry with many being unable to recover.

However, slow though the progress maybe the world is recovering. People are slowly starting to travel abroad again for their vacations. Many hotels and providers offer amazing deals as well, so customers can enjoy proper getaways at reasonable costs. Family friendly hotel deals, one for one deals, amazingly reduced rates during off peak periods are just some of those on offer.

Roomsnet picks a destination for the month and handpicks the best deals available in that particular destination. Making use of these deals people can travel to new destinations on a reasonable budget. With such remarkable deals holiday travel has once again been made possible for families that have had to curtail their vacations.

Booking online is the way to make hotel reservations as it allows flexibility and gives people a chance to thoroughly research their preferred destination and book online the best accommodation options. Most websites offer customized hotel options to their patrons making the whole procedure quicker and relatively hassle free.

This is the time to start planning the summer vacations, if not already done. The summer holidays are here and it is never too late to browse and find a hotel, apartment or even a villa perfect for a family getaway.

Travel trends may change, but factors determining hotel choices remain the same

May 31st, 2010

These days the options for holiday accommodations are endless, with big chain hotels, to apartments, to exclusive boutique hotels to simple bed and breakfasts. With each vying with the other to attract potential guests roomsnet.com conducted a poll to verify the exact facts that determine a traveller’s ultimate choice. This poll was conducted amongst the roomsnet.com member base consisting of seasoned travellers presenting an authentic overview of travel trends.

From 1752 total responses polled, the factors that were most popular when choosing a hotel needless to say were price and location, both receiving 25.70% each. The hotel would obviously have to be in an area convenient to the traveller, as that would act as the base for the duration of the stay. Proximity to places of interest such as wildlife sanctuaries or historical sites, places of religious worship all add to a holiday accommodation’s popularity.

Price is the most important determining factor for a holiday as it is with most decisions in day to day life. Based upon their budgets people choose the best possible accommodation available within their scope. Most vacationers as it has been proved by previously conducted roomsnet.com polls look for moderate comfort as opposed to extreme luxury or completely roughing it (read more).

Polling 22.90% of the responses were amenities and facilities as determining factors. Once a number of viable accommodations have been selected, next the elimination process begins where the pros and cons of each are weighed. Here vacationers decide which gives them the most value for money or the best amenities and facilities for the money they spend. Features such as tea/coffee making facilities, complimentary toiletries are amenities much appreciated by patrons along with the free use of the hotel gym, swimming pool and such.

For repeat guests, features such as a friendly staff is important, which is why it polled 17.10% of the responses. The staff being friendly, helpful and going out of their way to make a stay comfortable ensures that guests have a memorable experience they would wish to experience again and again. While this does not seem to be the most important factor for determining a hotel, it however does matter.

There are other factors to encourage or discourage a person from booking a hotel. While seemingly unimportant, to some these have an affect on their decision making, as is proved by the 5.70% that polled in.

Only 2.90% polled in as looking for luxury, as luxury is no longer a requisite factor. As mentioned before holiday goers are now ok with comfort and do not seek complete luxury.

Sight seeing tops poll as favourite activity when traveling

April 20th, 2010

The reasons for travel are immense and various. Sometimes there are compelling reasons such as education, family or business purposes but most often people travel for the sheer thrill of venturing out of their comfort zone and experience something other than the humdrum of everyday life.

Humans have a compelling need for change while harking after the familiar. That is why a vacation is a must, so that daily routine can be put on hold and new sites and sounds can be absorbed for an enriching and refreshing experience.

Seeing the sites                                    41.67%
Meeting new people                           16.67%
Learning about new cultures         16.67%
Traveling with someone                   16.67%
Other answer…                                      8.33%

According to a poll conducted by roomsnet.com for which close to 900 responses were received, what people enjoyed the most about traveling was seeing the sites of a new destination. Gazing upon the wonders of the world, seeing works of architectural beauty, historic monuments and places of natural beauty can be a healing experience for anyone. With 41.67% polling for sightseeing as the most favorite factor for traveling it is easy to see why most opt for holidays where sight seeing options are in abundance.

A very important result of traveling is the experience that the traveler gains, as everyone who travels come back enriched by the experience. Meeting people and learning about new cultures both polled 16.67% each, proving that humans are essentially social creatures and enjoy interaction. Being part of a cultural event or visiting places of cultural importance are experiences we all enjoy, as absorbing new and interesting knowledge is inherent in us.

Of course a main feature of travel is our travel companions. People love to travel in groups or with that special someone which enlivens the whole experience. Polling 16.67% of the results traveling with others was listed as an enjoyable factor. It is during a vacation that families and friends spend uninterrupted time together away from daily stress factors. Daily chores are forgotten, normal schedules are suspended while people indulge in rest and relaxation socializing with each other. Experiencing new sights and sounds together is a perfect way for family, friends and couples to bond.

With 8.33% citing other reasons including sunny beaches the finding of this poll that was conducted recently, re-confirms that over the past decades while travel trends may have changed, the basic reason or need for travel has not. Travelers still look for aesthetic beauty and historic artifacts when making a holiday destination choice, as that is what they enjoy the most when on vacation.

2010 Destinations preference among Roomsnet members

April 8th, 2010

From mid 2009 to 2010 the travel industry has slowly picked up with a marked changed showing in holiday destination preferences. A number of factors have contributed to this market change. The economic crisis the world experienced hit the travel industry hard with many holiday goers opting to stay within their own countries and enjoy low budget vacations.

This new trend to seek cheaper more economical holidays has also led to another factor, in which travellers realized they did not want to experience the same old destination spots. Previous hot spots such as Spain and Greece were hit hard with many considering their attractions as tried and hackneyed. Many now seek more remote, exotic and eco friendly holiday destinations, away from the mass crowds. While some do still go with the tried and tested, others are becoming more adventurous.

In a recent poll conducted by roomsnet.com this factor was brought to light, when the question was posed to the roomsent.com travel community as to which destination they would like to travel to this year (2010).

Costa Del Sol in Spain with its amazing beaches and nightlife still proved to be a very popular destination with 25 percent opting to travel there this year. Destinations such as Algarve in Portugal with 15 percent, New York with 6 percent, London with 10 percent and Malaysia with 6 percent all proved that as holiday hot spots they were on the rise.

However it was the ‘Other’ destinations that claimed top spot in the poll with 38 percent. This includes destinations such as Tenerife, Majorca, Bangkok, China, Dubai, Scotland, Rome and Queenstown in New Zealand. It shows that without a doubt people are travelling more towards the east for their holidays. Destinations such as Bangkok and China provide good quality vacations on a low budget, changing their holiday packages to suit the growing trend, of holiday makers turning towards virtually untapped holiday destinations for their vacations. 1438 respose were collected in this poll.

This year, majority will vacation in a destination they have never visited before

April 5th, 2010
A poll conducted recently on holiday destinations revealed that 63% of roomsnet members who took part in the poll will be traveling to a destination they have not visited before. Of the 587 members surveyed, 13% stated that they will be holidaying in a destination they have visited previously whilst 24% of the respondents said they always travel to the same destination for their holidays. All members who responded have made plans for their vacations and none said they have not yet planned their holidays.
